I was invited to Austria along with my thermal imaging device. Temperatures ranged between -2 and -8 with plenty of snow. I spent time with Dr. Edward Schindele DVM, collaborating with veterinary diagnostic equipment, thermal imaging, and X-rays to aid in the diagnosis of pathologies such as kissing spines in the thoracic vertebrae, lesion in tendons, early navicular disease, inflammation in the TMJ, which caused a lot of pain and discomfort in the horse's mouth.
Dr. Schindele has a class IV K laser like mine, which we used every day on the tendon, ligaments, fetlocks, feet, thoracic spines, wounds, and navicular and coffin joint pathologies. Thermal imaging was used during lameness examinations to detect the abnormal thermal temperature in the different parts of the body, e.g, feet, joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
A cranial cruciate ligament sprain in a 3 yr old dog, Leo with subluxation of the patella was detected but showed no evidence of degeneration in the stifle on x-rays. There was never a dull moment with large and small animals. Outside of collaborating with Dr. Schindele, I also got to treat some amazing and very talented horses whose accomplishments are too numerous to mention. Thanks to Heike Nixdorf, Mariann Schindele, Helga Schwaiger, Dr. Edward Schindele, Irme Schindele, and Sabine Bernsteiner for a very enjoyable and busy, productive week.
See you all again in March
