Dysplasia and Osteoarthritis in German Shepard right paw

This dog was diagnosed with hip Dysplasia and Osteoarthritis in her right paw. Osteoarthritis, also know as degenerative joint disease (DJD) is defined as the progressive and permanent long term deterioration of the cartilage surrounding the joints. Arthritis is inflammation of the joints.

Osteoarthritis is a form of chronic joint inflammation caused by deterioration of joint cartilage. She is an active dog and  walked daily, Over a period of time she displayed discomfort after exercising. She was reluctant to play and run after her toy and displayed the occasional lame/ stiff gait.  She would growl at the owner when she was trying to get her to jump out of the car.

The dog was also loosing muscle mass in her hind quarters, you could also see her respiration rate was increased as a result of pain. X rays showed degeneration of the hip joint and bony changes to the right front paw, she was prescribed Meta cam, Rimadly and Artri Aid.

I recommend K Laser treatment for the first 3 days and every other day for two weeks. Follow up treatment once a month.

This is a maintenance case. The dog has enjoyed being pain free. The dog is no longer on any medication and continues to enjoy her walks.
